In December 2006, the Center hosted “Invention to Venture: Bringing
Technology to Market”, a workshop designed to teach graduate students about
what it takes to get a research-based product from the university
laboratory to the commercial market. Approximately 30 students listened as
Jean Schelhorn from the OSU Technology Licensing office explained the
technology transfer process of applying and receiving a patent. Biomedical
device entrepreneurs Dr. Wayne Poll, Director of Robotic Surgery at
Riverside Hospital
and Founder of Minimally Invasive Devices Inc., and Paul Geary, Chairman,
President and CEO of GWR Medical, Inc., discussed their industry
experiences. Students were then given an opportunity to pose questions to a
panel that included the speakers and Prof. Michael Camp, Director of OSU's
Center for Entrepreneurship.
