At the Spring 2007 Societal Impacts Workshop, Dr. Andrew Maynard of the
Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars spoke with Center faculty
and graduate students about health and safety issues related to
nanotechnology. Dr. Maynard, an international expert on the potential risks
of nanotechnology, gave a two-part presentation in which he emphasized the
importance of identifying potential risks associated with nanotechnology
and taking precautionary measures to ensure that the development of
nanotechnology proceeds in the most responsible way. In addition to his
presentation, Dr. Maynard held two small group discussion sessions with
NSEC graduate students concerning specific issues related to their
individual research projects.
