Our 
goals are to create:
- environments favoring cellular growth and proliferation;
- 3D tissue engineering scaffolds;
- special environments/devices that promote more efficient DNA transfection of adherent mammalian cells; and
- functionalized (e.g. superhydrophobic, superhydrophilic and superamphiphilic) surfaces using aligned nanofibers.
Items (a) and (b) support the Cell-based Devices and Constructs Testbed,
(c) the Drug/Gene Delivery Testbed, and (d) the Biosensors/Chips Testbed.
